In 1501 the Catholic Monarchs ordered it to be built as a symbol of Christianity in the same place where the former Major Mosque was located. It was designed in the Gothic style, it was built in the Renaissance style and it was finished in the Baroque style. It acquired all its meaning from the project of the imperial city of Carlos I of Spain. Its museum houses various pieces of plastic arts: painting, sculpture, tapestry, goldsmithing and sacred ornaments. The vast cathedral building is part of an impressive monumental complex. The Royal Chapel. And a woman was born, who would change, despite many, the history of the reigning women. A historical place, a unique chapel, where her mortal remains eternally lie at the express wish of the Queen and those of her husband Fernado de Aragon, as well as those of Doña Juana I, Don Felipe and the Infante Miguel, reflecting the love of these Kings through Granada. Its interior shows the beautiful Carrara marble mausoleums, as well as one of the most important forging works in all of Spain and the important collection of Flemish paintings by Queen Elizabeth. These monarchs joined Granada to the crown of Castile, achieved the unity of the peoples of Spain, linked Spain with Portugal, Ingalterrra, The Netherlands, Burgundy and Austria through marital alliances with their children and with the discovery of America they achieved the universal presence of all the Spanish culture.
