Visiting the Monastery of the Cartuja de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Granada is a pleasant surprise, as it is a hidden jewel and a masterpiece of Spanish and Andalusian Baroque architecture.
The Monastery of the Cartuja de Granada, a Baroque masterpiece, and maximum exponent of Spanish and Andalusian Baroque architecture. Its construction began thanks to the transfer of some land by the Great Captain, Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, although he finally disassociated himself from the project. In 1516 the works that would last three centuries were restarted, of which only a part is preserved, due to the destruction of some parts, and it remained inhabited until 1835. Some parts, such as the church, the sacristy and the tabernacle contain a generous decoration, where the work of the master Federico Hurtado Izquierdo stands out in the last one.
The monastery has a large artistic collection, highlighting paintings by the Carthusian Juan Sánchez Cotán. The succession of profusely decorated chapels is impressive.
